Anne Eggebroten is a writer, mother, (somewhat) radical feminist, and
born-again Christian who teaches Women & Religion at California State University, Northridge.
She collected and edited personal stories for a pro-choice book, Abortion—My Choice, God’s Grace: Christian Women Tell Their Stories. The first time she spoke publicly in favor of preserving legal access to abortion was on a panel at Saddleback Church in Newport Beach, California, in 1986.
Her commentaries appear on Women’s eNews and in Christian Feminism Today, as well as in her blog Martha y Maria: Women’s Lives, Women’s Rights.
Currently she’s working on a memoir about her own feminist expectations in collision with the social realities of marriage, church, paid/volunteer work, and raising three daughters.
She has managed to stay in college most of her life, either studying or teaching courses including Chaucer, Women in the Medieval World, and Women in World Literature. She can make herself misunderstood in French, Spanish, German, and Hebrew.
During her mother’s final years with Alzheimer’s, Anne became an honorary member of the “Reminiscence Neighborhood” where her mother lived, and she kept a blog on the experience.
She lives in Santa Monica with her husband, whom she met in 1968 as an undergrad at Stanford University. She enjoys hiking in Colorado and jogging on the beach, and she’s a grateful member of Al-Anon.
